The sky is an abiding passion for artist Sim Chan, who explores underlying meanings behind the experience of looking up and catching a glimpse of the sky in Hong Kong and many other modern cities over the globe. Under the global phenomenon of urbanization, we are no strangers to the phenomenon of "city sky” only seeing part of the sky between skyscrapers. It is common to capture the sky "incompletely" when tall buildings squeeze in and stand in the way. However, Chan's keen observation of the sky has inspired him to illustrate the sky by taking shapes viewed on the horizontal plane in a concrete jungle. He decides to travel to all districts of Hong Kong to photograph the shapes of the sky from the ground's perspective. Based on these photographs, he then tailor-made the wooden frame of each canvas to represent a part of the sky, becoming a measuring unit of the sky. Chan's representation of the sky has captivated the audience with his most renowned painting series SimSky ever since.

Apart from painting, Chan also pushes his concept to another level in his series CityKite. He shapes kites as a symbolic vehicle to uplift "city sky" in pieces that each bears tensions and pressures from urban life, and to release them back to their origin as well as the nature. This acts as a ritual of breaking away from reality and daring to dream the impossible dream. This time Chan takes a step further and puts together two symmetrical frames based on a view captured in Taikoo (Location of the office) into a flying bird. The new artwork, "Wings of the Sky" conveys a harmony between space and boundary, a reflection on liberty and restriction, a pursuit of beauty and imagination.

"SkyDreaming" is a combination of "CityKite" and "Wings of the Sky", that presents a state of the sky with clouds floating gently and kites and birds flying high. Through sending a trimmed horizon back to the sky and back to the nature, a sense of relief can be shared with the peoples. The installation also symbolizes freedom, hope and dream-some of the most important core spirits we all believe in. Peoples will revolve around the sky, the clouds, the kite, the birds, and even the space in between that helps lighten the heart with a return feeling of calmness and heightened awareness.
