Starting from days and nights of a cityscape, the series of Twinkling City tries to capture the relationships between light and the colors, creating new narratives through unique landscape painting.
Installing the light box behind the canvas act as a breakthrough for Chan to experiment the effects of light to oil paint. Two landscape views appear one after another in response to the changes of luminosity, especially when the light comes through from the back of the work, the nightfall leaves the traditional knowledge of applying colors no longer practical.
